Can I use my Delorme Earthmate “USB connector” GPS with the program?

I have downloaded Service Pack 1 (or have determined that I do not need it), and my GPS device will connect and communicate with the program, but some of the display parameters (speed, elevation) do not appear to update and the GPS tracking seems to take control of my computer (the hourglass is continuously displayed on the screen).
