Yes and no. Sony calls it “progressive scan”, but it’s the same idea as Canon’s movie mode at 30 fps. In this mode, the TRV900 does capture both video fields at once, but only at 15 frames (=30 fields) per second. It makes a copy of every frame so the playback rate meets the video standard of 30 frames per second, but you only get 15 unique frames per second. It’s great for stepping through a sequence and extracting sharp still frames for display on the web, for instance- that’s how I did the ones on my sample still-shots page. Viewing normal video this way makes it look jittery, though- I much prefer normal interlaced scan at 60 fields per second for regular video.
