Can medication reduce the risk of ovarian cancer in BRCA mutation carriers?
In the general population, the only medication that has been shown to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer by 50-75% is the oral contraceptive pill. However, given the loose but ever present ties of the pill with breast cancer, and the pill’s association with increased cardiovascular events in women, the oral contraceptive should be used with caution in BRCA mutation positive women and under particular circumstances.
