You’ll get your next period when you take the sugar pills of the pack you are currently taking – ie the 4th week – mine usually starts on the day that I take the third sugar pill. When you are on the pill your natural cycle is totally overridden so that you only bleed when you stop taking the hormones (by taking the hormone-free sugar pills). That’s why you can skip having a period entirely by starting a new pack instead of taking the sugar pills. Because the pills totally override your natural cycle, it doesn’t matter when you start taking them. The only reasons to start taking them during your period is that you know you aren’t pregnant, and for convenience – your next period will be when you probably would have had one naturally. And the waiting for your next period thing only applies when first starting birth control, not if you’ve been taking it and missed some pills.
