Can my family and I actually visit the Nutty Putty Cave?”
Nutty Putty Cave is a naturally formed thermal spring cave located on the west side of Utah Lake. The cave has many rooms, corridors, and tunnels. The cave is very popular to the locals and is thought to be a good cave for beginners, but is in fact not. Because of this, many new and unexperienced cavers found themselves getting stuck, lost, and injured. ———————– The Timpanogos Grotto is pleased to host the Nutty Putty Cave website and online FREE access reservation system. Nov. 26–After being trapped for more than 24 hours in a tight crevice of the Nutty Putty Cave, John Jones, 26, died early Thursday, between 12:15 a.m. and 12:30 a.m., said Utah County Sgt. Spencer Cannon. The Stansbury Park man’s death apparently was caused by inability to breath adequately, Cannon said. Jones had been stuck — headfirst at a 60-degree angle facing down — in the Utah County cave, unable to move. The crews were trying to retrieve the body that will be taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Officials said early Thursday that they plan to hold a news conference around 4:30 a.m., as more details become available. Jones got wedged in a narrow segment of the cave called “Bob’s Push” around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Cannon said. One of his arms was pinned underneath his body. He was stuck in a 20-foot crevice about 700 feet into the cave 150 feet underground. Rescue crews entered the cave around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and spent hours trying to pull Jones free, succeeding around 5 p.m
