Can my rabbit have hay fever?
A rabbit that sneezes and has a runny nose typically has 2 possible causes for this: snuffles or ventilation issues. Rabbits generally don’t have hay fever or other allergies (most herbivores wouldn’t survive if they did), but rabbits can be sensitive to dust, molds or chemical exposure. Has your rabbit been seen by a vet that is a small animal and rabbit vet? A vet that specializes in dogs and cats may not have enough experience with rabbits – make sure your vet is specifically a rabbit vet as well. If the vet ruled out snuffles, I’d say your rabbit is being exposed to some type of irritant. If your rabbit hutch is kept in a shed or other outbuilding, I’d think that the ventilation may be an issue. Dusty bedding can cause eye irritation or breathing issues that may account for the nasal discharge. If you are bedding your rabbit on very fine material, the smaller particles may be getting kicked up and bothering his breathing. Old hay or straw in a hutch may be getting moldy if it hasn’
