Yes - New plants can be protected by utility patents and plant patents issued by the US Patent Office. They can also be protected by plant variety protection certificates which are issued by the US Department of Agriculture. Please contact the Office of Technology Commercialization for more information on the selection of the type of protection that is most applicable to your material.
