Can some answer this list and explain legislation for manual handling?

Manual handling legislation can be found on the hse web site. it is anything that is required to be lifted, lowered pushed or pulled and your employer is legally required to complete an assessment that will determine if controls or equipment is required, and if so he should look at implementing them. You also have legal requirements for your own H&S and are expected to inform your employer if you think something you are doing is a risk. Your own risk assessment. the best way to do this is to think about what you are lifting, where you have to take it, if the contents move, are they hot etc, if in doubt about anything do not lift get help. There are guidelines on the hse website for the amount (weight) lifted but these are only guidelines. Obviously a 6 foot heavily built man can lift something easily that a 4 foot slightly built woman would struggle with.
