Mitosis is eukaryotic cell division. It involves replicating all the chromosomes of a body cell, and dividing them up so that each daughter cell gets the exact same genetic material as the original cell. Meiosis is the 2-division process that produces haploid sex cells for sexual reproduction. Haploid means having only one set of chromosomes, so that two sex cells can get together and make a diploid body cell. Replication of all the DNA happens first. In the first meiotic division, the chromosomes are divided into two sets. In the second division, it is sort of like mitosis because the replicated chromosomes are split apart so that each daughter cell gets one entire set of chromosomes. It’s important to understand the idea of a “set” of chromosomes. A set could be thought of like a box of tools (numbered chromosomes), each tool is different and you need all the different tools to make up one set. A diploid body cell has two boxes of tools – you could think of it as one set of tools tha
