Can someone explain to me how abolishing term limits makes Chavez a dictator?
Abolishing term limits does not automatically make him a dictator as long as he wins legitimate elections (like the three presidential elections he won, for example). Citing the abolition of term limits as evidence of dictatorship is rhetorical opportunism and I suspect had he imposed term limits where previously there were none, those same critics would also call that a dictatoral action as well. I sympathize with your premise but we are fooling ourselves if we think we will ever engage in legitimate arguments about any of this in our lifetimes. Dictatorship is synonymous with communism, not because dictatorship is synonymous with communism, but because rhetorical opportunists have successfully made the WORDS synonymous. It is frustrating that before we can ever argue substance, we first have to exhaust ourselves haggling over the trivial terms of prejudicial perceptions, but that’s the whole point of rhetorical opportunism. You will never convince anyone if you give up and stop argui
