I agree with everything slewke says, but 1080 doesn’t necessarily mean 1920×1080. It could be a variety of resolutions 1920×1080 being one, but it could also be 1440×1080. With that said, 1080 describes a particular HD mode, with 1080 as the number of vertical lines. It is the higher resolution of HD, but not the only one. HD can also be HD 720, which again, describes the vertical resolution, with the horizontal resolution being a variable (at its highest, its 1280×720). Now looking at the 25p, slewke is correct, 25p is popular in PAL compatible camcorders, but that’s not all it indicates. 25 expresses the frame rate (frames per second) which in this case, is 25fps. Now the “p” in 25p represents that the frames are recorded in “progressive” rather than “interlaced”. Interlaced often looks cleaner, but progressive is prefered by filmmakers because it looks more like film. Interlaced is standard on digital camcorders and it works by recording only half resolution per frame then the next
