Nothing you say will be helpful, except “I am sad, too,” or something like it. I am a Christian who has lost loved ones. I know that I will see them and have a loving relationship with them again, but when they died, I only wanted to grieve. I did not want to hear something to make me feel better. One last hint: If what you want to say starts with, “At least…” DON’T SAY IT! You WILL make them feel worse.
