Can someone give me advice on backpacking through Europe, northern Africa and western Asia?
If you have just 3 months at most, do not plan more than one continent or pick two countries per continent and do not try to add more. Europe in one month is impossible, so is Africa and so is Asia. And if you want to see as much as possible in your three months, do one country per week and add a beach holiday between continents. There is a lot of advice on this site about traveling Europe, (I guess there is a lot about the other areas too, but I do not answer in those categories,) and each person has his preferences. If each of you makes a list with 10 places you want to see or things you want to do, you have a nice start. That gives you 10 to 30 places to visit, 30 is the top of what you can remember at the end of the trip, so limit yourself to that. Compare the lists, look up the places on a map (Google maps works great for this,) and decide how you want to travel, (train, bus, plane, ferry) and how much money you have available.
