Can someone older than 21 move into the Foyer?
AEOA has applied for different types of funding for the services, operating, and capital budgets. The operating budget provides a subsidy to help youth pay their rent. Renters pay 30% of their income for rent. One such subsidy for eight units in this project is Section 8. We are working with the Virginia Housing and Re-development Authority (HRA) to be able to provide this subsidy.It had been questioned if a 50-year old, for example, could live in the Foyer. By law, we would have to allow someone who is 50 to live there; however, we do not believe this will happen. From discussions with property managers in youth foyers that have used Section 8 in other parts of the state, they have not had this happen. When adults call in and find out that it is a youth project, with on-site services for youth, that services are required, that it is in the lease and we don’t have services for adults, they don’t want to live there.
