Can someone with a felony conviction 5 years ago get a government job?

That depends on what type of job you are looking for and the type of conviction on your record and when it was. You must claim every conviction on your application, from there the agency conducts a criminal background and receives the information on said conviction. If it was not a serious felony conviction (as much as that sounds like a double negative), they will take your employement into consideration. Your chances however are very slim depending on the type of government job you are looking for. Police is out of the question, as well as most office jobs. You may like one respondent said get a job as a janitor, but even still its very hard for a convicted felon to find work in the governmetal sector, let alone the private.
