We recently moved out of a rented home. The landlord agreed to have the carpets cleaned after we were moved out.The carpet was a berber type about 10-15 years old.It had been placed on a cement slab with no padding to accomodate a wheel chair that the prior owner had used.I was at the home the day after the carpet had been steam cleaned, it looked and smelled ok, but was very wet.The doors and windows were shut, it was June 30th and quite warm. The owner retuned to the vacant house a few days later and was greeted with a horrible stech. He decided to have the carpets re-steamed . When he returned after the second cleaning he declared that we had ruined his carpet and had it torn out and replaced with regular type carpet and padding, and refused to return most of our deposit. We feel that he ruined his own carpeting by not having it cleaned properly and not venilating the house, not once, but twice.
Can steam cleaning cause a berber carpet to mold?
