Can steel fibres replace structural steel mesh or bars?

0

10 years ago, most people will say “no”, thus most steel fibre applications are to substitute non-structural steel or steel mesh/ bars with insignificant design purposes. However, nowadays especially in the field of slab-on-pile application where structural steel bars are usually used, more and more slabs-on-piles have been done by reinforcing with steel fibres only and their performances are even much more satisfactory. Therefore, we can now say that steel fibres are able to replace structural steel in certain applications.
