Can Strep Throat cause diarrhea?

0

No, strep throat does not cause diarrhea. However, the antibiotics used to treat it DO cause diarrhea. It’s important to remember that, while those lovely antibiotics are killing off the nasty bacteria that caused your strep throat, they are also killing off the “friendly” bacteria that normally live in your digestive tract. Kill off enough of these good bacteria and diarrhea is the result. Eating yogurt is a simple and easy way to help combat this. 2 servings a day while you are on the medication and for several days after you complete your antibiotic course. Make sure it’s real yogurt (the label will indicate it contains “live, active cultures”) and not that fake, plastic, fat-free sugar free sludge they try and pass off as yogurt. Also, eat a banana or two everyday. Bananas do two important things. They supply potassium (which you tend to lose when you have a lot of diarrhea) and also help to “bind you up” a bit, slowing down the diarrhea. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, too. Hop
