If you will get a 5 gallon tank with a small filter and a tank heater ($25-$30), you can keep an African Dwarf frog with your male betta (NOT the clawed variety). Male bettas are territorial and will fight other similar fish (such as gourami), however, they absolutely can be kept with other compatible tropical fish. Don’t keep male betta with long finned tropicals as that will lead to some fin nipping. You can also keep tropical “sucker” fish with male bettas as long as you buy the variety that stays very small. For those that believe bettas are “serial killer” fish, please research the fish. You will be shocked to learn bettas have a wide variety of compatible tank mates, including African Dwarf frogs and many other tropical fish.
