Can Syrian Hamster Live together?
Adult Syrian hamsters should never be kept in the same cage. Unless breeding, they would fight and potentially kill each other.
Syrian hamsters by nature are solitary and should have their own separate enclosure. When they are younger they can share the same area, but once they reach adulthood after about 7 to 8 weeks, they should be separated or there will be a risk of territorial or mating disputes.
Absolutely not. I think some people have Syrian hamsters confused with other hamsters. Adult Syrians cannot live together. They will fight until one or both are dead. Please do not do this to your hamsters. I have 3 male hamsters that are all brothers. They are BROTHERS. Before I got them, 2 of them were kept together and they always fought. I found bloody bite marks on their bodies and their ears are permanently torn. The previous owner insisted that they still slept together so it was okay to keep them together. It isn’t. They made each other bleed!! I’m glad I was able to separate before things got worse. All 3 of the hamsters are very happy living separately. They can’t play together either. Once one of them smells another near their cage, they start freaking out and what to fight. Be really careful and don’t put your hamsters’ lives in danger.
No they can not be housed together, unless you want to wake up one morning to find one dead and being eating by the other. If you want a few hamsters living together you will need to get dwarfs as they can live in groups. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Hams…
That is a very very stupid person who is inbreeding their hamsters. Syrians in the wild do not live together, mothers leave the babies after 3-4 weeks of age and they all disband afterards, they are meant as solitary creatures regardless of whether they have been housed together previously or were born together. The older they get, the more they will start to fight, and with so little space it’ll turn into vicious fighting. Are you willing to risks your hamsters lives because you want to cram as many into a small cage ? If you want more then one, consider dwarf breeds, never, ever place syrians together.
