The centrifuge 5418 has an emergency lid release via a cord that is located on the underside of the device in the base plate. Remove the white plastic cap and pull the cord downwards. The centrifuge 5418 R has an emergency lid release behind a plastic cover on the right side of the device. Rotate the plastic cover counterclockwise and remove it. Enter the centrifuge rotor key into the hexagonal opening at rear until some resistance can be felt.
