Now that the decree has been issued for an election on October 15, and the disgraceful Election Commission has been removed, a glimmer of light has appeared at the end of the tunnel. There are signs, too, of shifting forces in Thailand’s party politics. A new super-dinosaur party has appeared. The strains inside the Thai Rak Thai Party are beginning to show. The Democrats seem to have woken up. An ABAC poll based on a big national sample shows the Thai Rak Thai still in the lead but by much less than in the last two elections and with a large slab of the electorate currently noncommittal.
