Can the event of SIDS occur if the child is awake?
In all the years Ive run the site Ive only heard of a few babies who were awake when they died. Lynette’s daughter died while awake, you can read her daughter Jessicas story here. Another baby in the nursery, Gabriella, she wasn’t sleeping either. Her story can be found here. It seems to me there was another one in the nursery but I can’t recall the baby’s name. One mom mentioned that there was a story in a book where the baby was awake, it may be the same story the SIDS Survival Guide refers to on page 4 when it says: “An article in chapter 16 “Against All Odds” tells the story of a baby who suddenly arched back in her father’s arm and started turning gray. Her father immediately started CPR and paramedics arrived within minutes, yet she could not be revived.” Lynette and Jessica are also mentioned in the SIDS Survival Guide.
