Can the “Hand” of Series 4600 HSC pumps be converted in the field?

If an error is made in the HAND specification of a Series 4600 HSC unit when ordering, all is not lost. The HAND of Armstrong Series 4600 units may be converted in the field. The Armstrong HSC units are designed so that each half is a mirror image of the other. This means that a qualified pump technician may change the pump HAND on site. This is a complicated process that should only be attempted by experienced pump service technicians. To change the HAND on site, the pump must be dismantled completely. The casing lower half must be rotated so that the suction connection is in the proper location. The impeller must be taken from the pump shaft and “flipped” so that the blades face the opposite direction. The shaft and impeller assembly is reassembled, then reinstalled in the pump casing lower half. The rest of the pump may then be reassembled and the unit operated with the HAND opposite to that shipped from the factory.
