Can the M1 Abrams take a direct SABOT hit?
It depends, if your taking about, say, APFSDS, it depends on who build it and what it is made of. Note* there are many SABOT rounds, not all anti tank, but I assume you mean anti tank. For example, in the Iraqi War(s) the Lions of Babylon, and other iraqi tanks, fired many tungsten SABOT, or APFSDS rounds and most the M1 tanks that were hit survived. On the other hand uranium APFSDS fired by our M1’s (and some of our allies) that hit the M1 Abrams knocked them out of action (read friendly fire). In a nutshell, a M1 Abram can take a direct SABOT hit, but whether the chobhams armour allows it to survive or not depends on the angle on which the round was fired, what the round was made of, what range, and more importantly, the crew of the opposing tank.
