Can the United States afford universal health care?

0

Yes. It is a question of priorities though. We can afford universal health care but not with a war in Iraq and low taxes on the wealthy and an aging population. About the demographic problem of more elderly people per working American there is nothing we can do. However, we can choose whether we want universal health care, a war in Iraq, or low taxes on the wealthy along with deficit spending. The federal government can afford missions to Mars and the Strategic Defense Initiative. The only reason it can’t “afford” universal health care is that it is not a priority amongst the decision makers. Clearly, sacrifices will have to be made but why should we sacrifice the sick and the poor?
