Can traditional wedding music be played on the Celtic harp?
Unlike the pedal harp, the Celtic harp is a “modal” instrument, meaning that it is not possible to play outside of a specific key signature during a given piece. However, nearly all traditional wedding melodies are modal (including Pachelbel’s Cannon, Wagner’s Wedding March, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, and many others), so it is quite possible for the Celtic harp to provide entirely traditional wedding repertoire. For pieces that are not modal, the music can often be accommodated by adding a melody instrument, such as flute or violin.
