GRANDMA’S OATMEAL COOKIES 3/4 cup shortening 1/2 cup sugar 2 beaten eggs 1/2 cup cream 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup flour 3 cups oatmeal 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 cup raisins 1 dozen cherries, chopped up 1 tablespoon kirsch, or cherry juice Cream shortening with sugar, beaten eggs, cream, and vanilla. Sift together flour, oatmeal, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Add to wet ingredients and mix well. Add raisins, cherries, and kirsch or cherry juice. Mix until well-blended. Chill about 1 hour in refrigerator. Drop by the teaspoonful onto a greased or lined baking sheet. Bake about 8-10 minutes at 375°F. Makes about 5-6 dozen.
