Yes, since 2002 unmarried fathers are now in a better legal position to acquire parental responsibility. The unmarried father will acquire parental responsibility If: the unmarried father is named on the birth certificate; or the mother enters into a "Parental Responsibility Agreement" with the father (see below); or the unmarried father is granted a Parental Responsibility Order from the court Click here to download the HM Courts Service Parental Responsibility Agreement.
