Can we ever combat global warming with the insatiable appetite that Asia and the west have in toe?
Can and will. The technology already exists to produce all the energy we want without using fossil fuels. The problem isn’t our appetite for energy–its special interests blocking that technology from being implemented. but when–not if-it is available, the country that does so first will have an enormous competative advantage. Oil and coal are 19th century technologies–modern sources like wind, solar, and nuclear power are not only clean, they are cheaper to operate. Most likely these will be used on a large scale first in th eUS–we’re the ones with the technological edge and ability to do it most easily. Countries like China will follow suit simply because if they don’t,they’llprice themselves out of the global markets by relying on outmoded and expensive energy technology.
