Can we use methane from landfill and animal farms as gas fuel?

There are a number of places that use landfill gas as fuel for driving machinery. Purfleet Board Mills had a gas turbine driven alternator for electricity production that used this fuel. It has a low calorific value so needs to be used in large volumes, often it is mixed with methane from gas supplies to improve it or maintain a constant calorific value as it is quite variable in its quality. I work for the company that supplied this unit.
