Can you describe the study method used by TeenKorean? In what way it is different from other methods?

Our main concern when first developing TeenKorean was to find the best possible method to help overseas Korean teens learn Korean, while sustaining their interest enough so that they would stick with it. After looking at several surveys and doing some research, we were able to get a good idea what teens between the ages of 10 and 14 need. We looked at their level of proficiency in Korean, hours spent studying and preferred methods of learning. We soon discovered that many teens in this age group possess some level of proficiency in Korean, but that their motivation to study the language is low because they have few opportunities to use it. We concluded that since overseas Koreans have an innate familiarity with the language, it is best to offer them concrete opportunities to make use of not only the grammar and vocabulary, but also the social and cultural background of Korea. Since they already possess this knowledge, we decided that such an approach would be much preferable to step-by
