Can you grow a Raspberry bush in a big pot so it does not spread like a weed?

Well, you could, but don’t be put off from growing raspberries in the ground in case they ‘spread like a weed,’ because they don’t. Raspberries do increase in size by sending roots and shoots out sideways in Spring, but these are not difficult to control if they occur where you don’t want them, as the roots are not very deep and are easy to pull out or dig up and cut off. After a few years, you need to dig up the original plants, whcih will have becomne woody and less vigorous at the centre, and replant with rooted side shoots. They are a lot less trouble growing in the ground as they will need less watering then in a pot and as they are large plants they are more stable in windy conditions in the ground.
