My perfect winter Berliner evening meal. Starter: Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancake). See the recipe link below. Serve this with an apple sauce and a nice German white wine. (That’s tautologous, the only nice German wines are the white ones). Main course: Kohlrouladen. It’s a popular dish that is difficult to come by in summer. When you eat it you’ll see why. Some people give them different names but it’s basically the same. Make one per person. This is basically a pork and/or beef wellington wrapped up in cabbage leaves and boiled or baked (as you prefer). If you bake it then baste the rouladen in gravy and make sure that it coats the (roasting) potatoes which you have put around the things in their baking tray. Recipe in the link below. If you boil it then serve with boiled potatoes and another root veg. I like mashed celeriac. Pour gravy over the lot. My preference is to have the gravy tending towards the thick instead of runny so that everything is well coated and not sitting in a wa
