I second Mid Century Pav, they rock. There are also a few cool places that sell stuff here and there, but the best finds I've ever found in Houston were at estate sales, so if you are there at the end of the week (Thursday, Friday, Sat, Sun) you might want to pick up a Houston Chronicle and go through the classifieds. More importantly, where are you from? I live in Houston now but I grew up in Oklahoma City. As a person with an insatiable appetite for mid-century antiques, I can say OKC is one of the cheapest, most abundant places to find such goods. NO ONE throws anything away in Oklahoma, and there are few collectors there, so prices are much, much lower than they ever are in Houston and the stck is much higher. Since you said you are driving to Houston, if you are somewhere between there and OKC (like Dallas, maybe) I would highly suggest driving up to OKC for a weekend and shopping there. If you are interested, e-mail me privately at brittanie (guess) rulebrittaniea (guess again!) ...
