Nassau and Grand Bahama Island have a very cheap public transportation system called the Jitney(small buses) that you can take to the beaches and other areas for $1pp.(exact change) You can catch it near the port, about a 5 to 10 minute walk. Renting a car is not for everyone, you drive on left in the Bahamas.
