Rag Doll, .22 Long Rifle is the name of the cartridges, it does not mean that you can not fire .22 Long Rifle cartridges in a handgun of that caliber. .22’s started with .22 Shorts back in the 1850’s, and sometimes in the 1870’s the .22 Long was developed to give a bit more power. You could not use .22 Longs in a handgun, or rifle chambered for .22 Short. Then in the 1890’s the .22 Long Rifle was developed to give greater power again. The .22 LR would not fit into .22 Short or Long chambers, but the Shorts and Longs can be fired in .22 LR chamber. Other than the Beretta Minx, and a few imported derringers, I don’t think any repeating handguns have been made in the USA chambered for strictly for .22 Shorts, or .22 Longs since the end of WWII. As others have said, you can’t squeeze a .32 caliber cartridge into the chambers of a .22 caliber handgun, and if you manage to do so, firing the cartridge WILL result in damage to the gun and shooter. You can’t safely shoot a .32 caliber bullet do
