Can you use the combined pill whilst on the coil to stop periods?

If you’re just wanting to skip a period for a holiday there’s another medication that would probably be more appropriate than the combined pill if you already have a coil, since you’re not needing another form of birth control. It’s a tablet called norethisterone, which you start taking a few days before your period is due and your GP can prescribe this. I’m not 100% sure whether or not you can take the combined pill when you have a coil at all. It might depend what type of coil, as some release hormones (eg the Mirena coil) and I think you may not be able to take the pill with this type of coil, but you might be with a copper coil (which doesn’t release hormones). Also if you’re generally not happy with how your periods have changed since changing to a coil, it might be worth making a doctor’s appointment anyway to discuss the options further.
