Cant companies achieve more strategic management without the help of the VMP or an outside coach?
Of course companies can improve their strategic management processes without the help of the VMP or a VMP coach, but such efforts can be very difficult to launch and sustain. For many organizations, in spite of good management and good intentions, a more disciplined approach to value management simply wont happen without outside help. Paul OMalley Associates has conducted market research in developing the VMP. When we ask CEOs to rate the potential impact on the success of their businesses of a disciplined approach to issues like strategy, execution, alignment, internal communications, etc., they typically rate each of these areas between 4 and 5 (on a 1-5 scale, with 5 being most important). When we then ask the degree to which they have such disciplined processes in place, the scores tend to range between 1 and 3! We call this disconnect the VMP Gap.
