Ceramic or Porcelain floor tiles! What is the difference ?
Answer Although both ceramic and porcelain floor tiles are suitable for domestic uses, the properties of both products are quite different. Standard ceramic floor tiles will have a softer body, or biscuit, and generally have a glaze which is fired on top. A porcelain tile is fired at a much higher temperature. This process bonds and fuses the tile body together which results in the tile being stronger and more robust. This production method is often referred to as fully vitrified. A fully vitrified tile is impervious to water and therefore, frost. As such, this makes porcelain floor tiles an ideal choice for outdoor installations. Because of their durability, fully vitrified porcelain floor tiles are frequently used in commercial installations such as supermarkets and swimming pools.
