Computer monitor damage eyesight?

Staring at a computer screen for hours at a time with no break , can cause your eyes to have difficulty in focusing. Many children have been tested and found to be lacking in vision accuity in the same ranges as "geezer glasses", and are not usually prescribed corrective lenses, but directed to the local drugstore for the correction from the reading glasses rack. They are told to only wear these when they are reading or using the computer. Often the problem corrects after use of these lenses.

This question has been around for decades. It is certainly a contributor, but I would suggest seeing an optometrist and/or an ophthalmologist. Here’s one for you: I believe, at 53, I have bad posture do to computers – before I got glasses, I would slump over so I could see the computer and, over time, I believe this led to my curved spine. Get your eyes checked by a professional.

Computer screen should not damage your eyesight (This is what I was told by my Eye doc when I had to get glasses) but other things like TV can cause permanent eyesight damage if used too much And even though you’re only 17 it can be age. Mostly visual problems are caused by age and you can’t have any control over when they come in your life.

The most common computer monitor problem is eye strain and dry eye. Both can cause blurred vision. People looking at a monitor tend not to blink, this causes dry eye. It progresses and becomes a chronic condition that allows for the plugging of the natural oil glands around the eye. If these glands get plugged they do not contribute to natural tears and the eyes get drier. You can use and eye hygiene soaking to cure that problem, instructions also available on the net. Looking away from the monitor and blinking every once and a while will prevent the problem and since you are so young likely cure it. There are simple free programs available on the web that flash a reminder on the screen to blink. The CRT can be another worse problem, again because of your age likely not permanent. CRTs produce a lot of light in part of the blue spectrum that damages the back of the eye, the receptors. It is not a problem with lcds etc. just crts. You can fix this by wearing light yellow or brown safety
