Could abusive upbringing with mother be responsible for my lack of interest in women?

What I think you are doing is you are imagining that most women are somewhat like your mother, which is normal as that is what you were used to when you were growing up. Okay, so you need to take it step by step. 🙂 Try going out with a bunch of mates to a bar or club (which ever you prefer) and try meeting new females, just as friends to begin with. You should also try getting used to just having day to day, friendly chat with women you meet in places. And keep telling yourself that these women are not your mother, and that the more women you talk to, even in a friendly way, the more your confidence will build. Also, I know for a fact, that you will not be alone forever. One day, the perfect women will come along, and you will just know. I believe that there is a person out there for everyone. 🙂 However, I am not a professional so I would advise that you maybe speak to a counsellor about it. Seriously, they are great and are trained to build confidence in people. You could also visit

You are right on target as to the WHY part of feeling the way you do. You were a young age when this started/occurred; now, your impression of women is based on what you learned it to be, from your mother. Make sure you realize, though, that this isn’t YOUR fault. You couldn’t control how she acted, and now you couldn’t control the long term affect it would have on you. I am sorry for what you suffered. You were a child, and nothing was your fault, including being born. Your mother’s issues were exactly that…HER issues. I am deeply sorry she was so vocal and demonstrative of her own problems, and that she blamed you. You were not, and are not, to blame. I applaud you for being able to recognize this, and also for wanting to correct it. I do feel that it’s too big of an issue to do by yourself. Just knowing the source isn’t enough to overcome it, and that’s true for most everyone (I know, for example, that I am depressed…knowing it doesn’t fix it, even though I would like not to be)
