As an unfortunately frequent visitor to a local animal hospital, my concern for you would be more that you will see lots of pain and injury which will break your heart. Just sitting in the waiting room I see sick, injured, and abused pets -- it is so sad. As for your fear of dogs, my guess is that you will get over that once you see more dogs, especially the sick ones that need love. My suggestion is that you apply for the job. Get an interview, and see how much animal interaction you would have. If it is a lot, mention you are concerned about the dog issue but you are willing to try. You may even ask to sit with the current receptionist for a day to see if this is a good fit. What an animal hospital receptionist does varies by the hospital.
