Could Julius Peppers Sign With the New England Patriots?
I was doing some Internet browsing and came across a blog on NBCSports.com (temporarily housing ProFootballTalk.com) that gave way to rumors that the New England Patriots could potentially sign Panthers free agant DE Julius Peppers. The Patriots’ trade for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel yesterday gives them a total four first-day draft picks: their own first round pick (24th overall), and three second round choices (34th, 47th, 58th). They are in meetings and talks with free agent cornerbacks Leigh Bodden (Detroit) and Shawn Springs (Washington) and have just re-signed safety James Sanders to a three-year deal. The Panthers have no first-round pick this year, as they traded it last year for Philadelphia’s first round pick in drafting Jeff Otah. Thus, this could be an explosive pre-draft trade for both sides.
