Job enlargement – increasing the number of tasks in a job Job enrichment – increasing the worker’s responsibility for managing his or her own job. Job enlargement attempts to make a job more varied by removing the dullness associated with performing repetitive operations. In job enrichment, the attempt is to build in to jobs a higher sense of challenge and achievement. The accumulation of achievement must lead to a felling of personal growth accompanied by a sense of responsibility. Job enrichment is connected to the concept of job enlargment. Job enrichment is the process of “improving work processes and environments so they are more satisfying for employees”. Many jobs are monotonous and unrewarding – particularly in the primary and secondary production industries. Workers can feel dissatisfied in their position due to a lack of a challenge, repetitive procedures, or an over-controlled authority structure.
