Unless you opt out then companies can pay to access the electoral roll, which makes it easy for them to send you spam emails etc. This give you the opportunity to hide your details. On the other hand it means that political parties can’t find your details to send you there manifestos and polling organisations also can’t contact you to canvas your opinion.
