Most Americans at the time were isolationists until Japan attacked. If the US had entered earlier or not at all Europe would still have been destroyed. You must also realize that fore-sight is not an American strong suite planning for the future is not something we do well. We are only concerned with the here and now. Our superpower status is fading and once the crushing US debt is defaulted on (it will happen)… all bets are off. It was the Nazi’s and Japanese that were trying to deliberately become superpowers. US became a superpower because it was 1. Self sufficient Capitalist country with massive natural resources, unified landmass and a huge manufacturing infrastructure to make weapons. 2. Difficult to reach quickly during this era with land air and sea military forces. 3. Right people, Right time right Tools. 4. First to successfully create Nuclear weapons. 5.
