Could there be standing room only on Ryanair planes?
In what is possibly another bid for free publicity, Ryanair’s controversial boss, Michael O’Leary says he wants new planes to have standing areas where passengers would perch belted to bar stools. He estimates that this would mean they could get 50% more passengers on board and reduce costs by 20%. He is seeking approval from the Irish Aviation Authority and has already spoken to the aeroplane manufacturer, Boeing about the design. This comes after Ryanair’s latest cost-cutting suggestion to make passengers carry their own bags to the aircraft hold (‘In the News’ on 24 Jun 09). (Sources: The Sun.co.
