Answer Brian: There are many good guitars available, and I can’t point you to one particular brand or type. I will say that I don’t think you should buy a cheap-o guitar (like many suggest) to start on. A bad guitar will: – not stay in tune no matter how much you try to correct it – not sound good even with a great amp/effects – make you lose practice time with frustration – break often, causing you to spend $ on repairs/parts A good one will: – keep you practicing longer so that you get better – stay in tune consistently so that you can spend more time on playing and less time on tuning – sound better so that you can build confidence in your play Now, as to what a “good” guitar will be, you should play as many as you can. Don’t just stick with popular brands, either! Please – DO NOT – fall for a sales pitch as to what’s “better.” No other person can know what feels best to you.
