FILM THICKNESS: Is measured in mils or microns. I mil =.00I Inches or 25.4 microns. ProTek uses mils as the mode of measuring film thickness, e.g. wet mils and/or dry mils. A coating material containing 50 % solids applied at 100 square feet per gallon at 10 wet mils will yield a coat of 5 dry mils. If a 100% solids material is applied at 100 square feet per gallon @ 16 mils wet film thickness, it would result in a 16 mils dry film thickness (since it is 100% solids: there is nothing to evaporate). THEORETICAL COVERAGE or THEORETICAL SPREAD RATE: Does not allow for application loss (such as material lost while spraying) and surface irregularities when determining working requirements. SOLIDS BY VOLUME: The volume of the nonvolatile (non-evaporating) portion of paint/coating divided by the total volume, expressed as a percent.
